Parent problems and the phone audition At home, Sol-i’s parents are arguing about money. The mother asks the father to get the money back immediately. The father leaves the house rather upset, and Sol-i stands shocked and unable to gauge the situation. Jeong Jin-hwan has to take part in a phone audition, and his friends listen in. He sings a love song while looking at Ha-young. He makes the first cut. This is a little comedy injected into the story. Finding comfort in Cha Heon Sol-i returns home to a quiet house and sees a note from her mother stating that she’s gone to another city. She speaks to her Cha Heon about her family issues and bursts into tears. Her father’s phone has been off for two days, and she’s worried that there will be a divorce. She cries into his sleeve as he stands there despondent. This is a little reminder that parents define your childhood — they can be truly upsetting times. A night away Jin-hwan attends the second preliminary round for the singing competition; Sol-i and Dae-sung are his back-up dancer. He tries rapping, but the judges immediately dismiss him, and he’s dragged off the stage — his dream is shattered. As they are out of town, the friends decide to stay the night. Dae-sung gets a call from his coach, who berates him for missing training. Looking at the stars The friends look up at the stars together and enjoy the time they have away from the norm. Late in the night, Sol-i thanks Cha Heon for listening to her about her parents. Sol-i then tells him she wished to the stars that he liked her back, but she isn’t putting her hopes up or setting high expectations. I think deep down she can tell that Cha Heon likes her back, but he needs pushing. The ending As the episode ends, the friends put their secrets into handwritten notes, fold them and then mix of them on the table to read them all out each. At the start of episode 22, Cha Heon debates on whether to call Sol-i. He’s very down about it, but then his colleague Ji-su points out that surely someone else has an eye on her as she’s cute. Suddenly, Ji-su gets excited about an autograph event with Dae-sung. It’s an interesting stage of the story where Cha Heon no longer feels in control — he was too complacent. Cha Heon asks Jin-hwan for help Cha Heon tells Jin-hwan that he cannot get hold of Sol-i. Jin-hwan tells Cha Heon that Sol-i doesn’t wait around for him anymore and that she’s landed herself a gig as a webtoon artist. Cha Heon wants Jin-hwan to help him, but his friend accidentally reveals that Sol-i was sexually harassed. Later on, Jin-hwan invites Sol-i to w house warming party. The house warming party At the party, Dae-sung attends. Cha Heon turns up to the housewarming party dressed up in a high school uniform. He’s embarrassed, believing that was the theme. During the party, Cha Heon gets a call and he has to go to the hospital. Before he leaves, Dae-sung tells Cha Heon that he will take Sol-i home. Dae-sung shoots his shot part two It’s genuinely surprising that Dae-sung has clung on to hope for Sol-i for so long, knowing full well that her heart is set on Cha Heon, even with all the problems they are having. When Dae-sung drops off Sol-i, he gives her a bouquet and asks her to be his girlfriend. He asks her to think carefully as this will be her last chance. He then shows her a ring and says no-one else can get a diamond ring like this for her — such arrogance! Sol-i tells him again that she sees him as a good friend. Dae-sung accepts it again before cheekily telling her she has low standards. This is definitely a closed book on this potential romance now. Cha Heon makes a massive admission Dae-sung drowns his sorrows at a bar and gets drunk. He asks Cha Heon what kept him so busy that he couldn’t be by Sol-i’s side — he wants him to take her seriously. Cha Heon confirms that he likes Sol-i more than she likes him. He thought she’d join him when he left, but she didn’t. He confirms he has regretted the last three years and he can’t live without her. When Sol-i finishes, Dae-sung gets his phone out to confirm that Sol-i was on a call with him — she heard everything Cha Heon said. Ironically, Dae-sung sorted everything out between them — he wanted Cha Heon to prove himself. The ending At the end of the night, Cha Heon and Sol-i walk home together. He apologises to her and admits it was his fault. He asks for forgiveness. Sol-i asks Cha Heon to give her some time. This drama really brought my year of 2017 to a happy ending Story/plot -10- I heard that this storyline was very similar to a Japanese drama/manga called “Itazura na Kiss”; however, I have never watched the drama, or any of their remakes, so I am writing this review with nothing to compare it to, pretty much. With that being said, I loved the storyline of this cutesy, heart-warming drama! The cliche style of a not-so-smart girl liking the perfect guy definitely took a positive turn in this show! The transition between high school to college to adult life was pretty smooth, in my opinion, with majority of it focused during their high school years, which made it an innocent and light drama. As the story moves on to the adult life, the relationship between the main leads became more intimate, which made me squeal so many times at 2 o'clock in the -10- The height difference between the 160cm Chen Xiao Xi played by Shen Yue and the tall 188cm Jiang Chen played by Hu Yi Tian made me squeal every time! Both of the main leads are decently new faces to the entertainment world, and they definitely made a good impression, on me at least haha! For her first main-lead role in a drama, Shen Yue did a spectacular job of performing the different sides and attitudes of the character, Chen Xiao Xi, from the happy, always positive high school youth to the independent grown women that Chen Xiao Xi becomes later on in the drama. NOW, LET’S TALK ABOUT HU YI TIAN! OMG, HE IS SOME HAWT STUFF! So cute, and for his first main-lead role, he played it really well! It’s hard to fall in love with someone who plays a, supposedly, cold-hearted, not caring character, but later on, we find out that the character, Jiang Chen, is pretty much the opposite! The way Hu Yi Tian smirks and acts to care for Chen Xiao Xi in the drama can make any girl's heart flutter! I think I found my next man crush tbh The supporting roles might have not done a whole lot, but their contribution played a huge impact throughout the whole show, and it made the drama 100X better! Nothing to complain in general, great leads, great actors/actresses, and great chemistry! Music -10- The opening song is truly the perfect fit for the drama! When I first heard it, I already loved it and how the melody matches the drama’s theme, but after reading the lyrics, it made me love the song even more! If you don’t believe me, take a look yourself I especially love the line “wo xihuan ni pei wo kanshu fen xin kan wo tou xiao” which translates to “I like you when you’re accompanying me to read a book, distracted by looking at me, smiling quietly,” it brings back many ridiculous smiles when I watched the drama, and I can't seem to stop replaying the song in my head now!Rewatch value -8- I love A Love so Beautiful and I have rewatched my favorite parts more than a dozen time, but I am sorry, I can’t rewatch the whole drama from the beginning to end more than once. I am not sure exactly why, but I guess the whole drama wasn’t capturing enough for me? For the parts that I love though, I have rewatched it so many times, and I will never get bored of rewatching them!Overall -9- This drama truly created a great end to my 2017! The sweet, yet simple story is my cup of tea! I can’t seem to let go of this drama, it was too good and too sweet! The characters played their parts so well, the mixture of the songs and the cute relationships between the characters are too much to be given up so easily. So sad that I watched it in only 2 days! I wish I would have spent more time to savor every second!If you are looking for a romantic, and heart-warming drama that takes place mainly during the high school life and transitions to more serious matters later on, A Love so Beautiful is definitely the drama for you! After Cha Heon leaves and returns, episode 21 brings a sweet conclusion to Jin-hwan and Ha-young’s story. The episode opens up with Sol-i calling Cha Heon. She tells him that the kiss was a big mistake and that he cannot do that again without permission. But, it wasn’t Cha Heon who answered, it was Dr Seo Ji-su who picked up his phone. Sol-i is embarrassed. When Cha Heon understands that Sol-i called, he panics and takes the phone off Seo Ji-su. And then the scene flits to Ha-young trying on a wedding dress, and Jin-hwan is in complete awe looking at her. He calls her an angel. Cha Heon tells Sol-i that they will make up Later in the day, at the hospital, Cha Heon and Sol-i have lunch together. He asks her if they can make up. She’s clearly not over what happened, and she states they broke up three years ago. Cha Heon feels they didn’t break-up and as she walks off, he tells her they are going to make up. He knows they are made for each other and he refuses to let her go. Dae-sung has an engagement ring and Sol-i bumps into Hui-ji It’s the day of the wedding and Dae-sung brings the rings. He accidentally gives his friend another ring with a massive diamond before going through his coat and finding the wedding rings. It looks like Dae-sung is planning to propose to Sol-i — you’d think by now he’d assume that Cha Heon and Sol-i are inveitable. At the wedding, Sol-i bumps into Hui-ji. Flashbacks show the night that Cha Heon comforted Hui-ji and they hugged — she was suffering from depression and Sol-i misread the situation. When she tries kissing him, Cha Heon looked away. In the present day, Hui-ji admits to Sol-i that she was young and foolish back then, and cared only for her feelings, knowing full well Cha Heon only wanted Sol-i. This was a sweet admission by the character and provided further context for Sol-i. The ending The wedding ceremony happens, and Jin-hwan and Ha-young are officially married. When Jin-hwan throws the bouquet, Cha Heon catches it and then gives it to Sol-i. Dae-sung looks on, worried.
